Shrimanta Shankar Academy Senior Secondary School Principal Dr Geeta Dutta Baruah was conferred with the Bookland Teachers’ Excellence Award on Tuesday.

Advisor of Bookland Publication Ujjwal Bora while talking to Northeast Now said, “The award was presented to Dr Geeta Dutta Baruah for her great contribution towards the education sector.”

Expressing her appreciation to the publication, Dr Geeta Dutta Baruah said, “I was invited to the award ceremony on May 6. But I could not attend the programme since I was busy in conducting NEET examination in school.”

A team from Bookland Publication led by Ujjwal Bora presented the Excellence Award to Dr Geeta Dutta Baruah in her office at the school.

Expressing her happiness at receiving the award Dr Baruah said, “They (Bookland Publication) nominated me for the award only because of the school environment. Our students have maintained their good performance in examinations. Good administration, student’s discipline and behaviour are also some reasons for which the publication awarded me.”

The Bookland Publication also presented Bookland Teachers’ Excellence Awards to other five winners on May 7.

The awardees were Biren Bora (Binod Nath Memorial Life Time Achievement Award), Anita Nath (Malati Nath Memorial Teacher of the Year), Chandra Saharia (best teacher for excellent teaching methods), Jatin Bordoloi (best teacher for extracurricular activities) and Manju Rani Laskar (Bookland Pragya Sadhana Award).

Ujjwal Baruah further said that they had conducted a survey on some selected schools across Guwahati, in which Shrimanta Shankar Academy Senior Secondary School topped in rank. “We will cover whole Northeastern states in future for the award,” Baruah informed.
