Holding of the 105th Indian Science Congress (ISC) 2018 with the theme ‘Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology’ in Manipur has provided various opportunities to the students and the Manipur University to have a wide and detailed exposure to recent findings and developments in the fields of Science and Technology.
“Yes, it was a great opportunity for the young researchers for their exposure and interaction with the distinguish experts and scientists coming from various parts of the country and abroad,” said Prof Arun Kumar, organizing secretary of the science congress.

“It also created local impact through the school children who visited the Pride of India Expo during the congress,” he added.
According to Prof Arun Kumar who heads the Manipur’s University’s Earth Science Department, altogether 5,000 delegates and participants attended the ISC which concluded on Tuesday evening.
Echoing a similar feeling, Dr Ganesh Sethi, public relation officer of Manipur University said, “The ISC provided various opportunities to our students and the Manipur University through main thrust areas and 14 sectional programmes.”
The main thrust area of ISC are Children’s Science Congress, Women’s Science Congress and Science Communicator meet – has vastly benefited school and college students and many women of the states while the 14 sectional programmes include agricultural and forestry sciences, animal, veterinary and fishery sciences, anthropological and environmental sciences, chemical sciences, earth system Sciences, engineering sciences, environmental sciences, information and communication sciences & technology, material sciences, mathematical sciences, medical sciences, new biology, physical sciences and plant sciences.
“Many of our students have participated in various sections to discuss, provide lectures and presentations,” Ganesh added.
“This is for the first time that not only our students but others in the State are given such opportunity at one go to meet and interact among each other,” he further said.
Some of the University students who volunteered their valuable study time during the ISC to assist the organizers in various activities also said that they were immensely benefited from the ISC.
Kashung Yothing, a student from the Department of Teachers’ Education of Manipur University said that he gained lots of knowledge after his exposure to the ISC.
On the other hand Th Jayalaxmi, a student of Bio-chemistry Department said that the first ever science congress in Manipur University ‘helped us in developing communication skills first’.
“Secondly it also gave us an insight on scientific knowledge apart from enhancing other extra co-curricular activities,” she added.
“Yes the congress really enhanced my knowledge on scientific knowledge, particularly on my study area after visiting the exhibition site where I found real time projects on aerospace,” felt LS Veisounii of Computer Science Department adding, “in short it gave me a clear focus on my objective”.
