An uproarious situation was witnessed in Assam University campus after the end of the counting of votes for the post of General Secretary of Assam University Students Union (AUSU) on Tuesday evening.

While the supporters of General of Secretary candidate Debopratim Saha (who secured 1133 votes) wanted him to be declared winner as the new GS of AUSU, the supporters of another candidate Raja Kumar (who secured 1130 votes) demanded for recounting of votes alleging anomalies in the counting.

However, the University authority is yet to take a decision in this regard. The authority is going through the electoral rules of the university.

On the other hand, Abhinandan Mahanta, an independent candidate won handsomely for the post of President by securing 1433 votes against his nearest candidate Priyanuja Bora who secured 729 votes.

Milan Das, outgoing President of AUSU, Raja Kumar and his supporters claim that he secured 66 votes in one of the departmental polling centres among the 10 centres and was informed by the agent too of getting 66 votes, but, when the votes were announced in Bipin Pal seminar hall, it was announced that he (Raja Kumar) got only 61 votes.

The supporters of Raja Kumar have raised objection in it. In the melee of shouting and chanting from both the sides, one of the students collapsed and had to be rushed to Assam University Health Centre in an ambulance.
