As the crisis in Manipur University refuses to die down, the fate of the students of the university remains uncertain as the 2nd and 4th semester postgraduate students have not been able to complete their semester examinations due to the ongoing agitation.

It may be mentioned that the results of the examination of the 6th semester undergraduate students of Manipur University are also yet to be declared, delaying their admission for further academic session.

But the students of the university are still hopeful.

“If the Centre and State Government solve the issue, the examinations which are behind schedule can be completed within a week,” Laishram Kennedy Singh, general secretary of Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU), told Northeast Now.

He also added, “Some departments of the university have completed their semester examinations, some started, while some others are yet to begin.”

Regarding the results and admission for the 6th semester undergraduate students, the MUSU general secretary said, “Arrangements of extra seats for the new admission will have to be made to solve the problem.”

Since the indefinite shutdown of the university on May 30, the students of the university have not attended classes and their ongoing semester examinations have been delayed. “The 4th semester students appeared for their first paper on June 19 but after that, due to the agitation, the examination of both the 2nd and 4th semester students had to be stopped,” said Alfina Chothe, a 2nd semester PG student of the Political Science department.

Chothe also added, “We may face problems in completing our 3rd semester course as we are already far behind in our academic schedule.”

Hriiyio, a 2nd semester PG student of the Economics department, who stays in a hostel of the university, said, “The heads of each of the departments of the university have resigned, the offices in the university have been shut, but the university hostels are still running. The students who stay in hostels are waiting for the university classes to start normally again.”

The semester examinations of the departments of the university were scheduled for commencement by the last and first week of June and July respectively, but the semester examinations have delayed due to the agitation demanding removal of Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey for his involvement in alleged financial and administrative irregularities.
