Mizoram got its first Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Fruits on March 7. The centre was inaugurated by Mizoram CM Lal Thanhawla and Israeli ambassador Daniel Carmon.

The centre is located at an area between Haulawng and Mualthuam N villages in South Mizoram’s Lunglei district. This centre will be exclusively for processing citrus fruits.

The project is completed at an estimated cost of Rs 900-lakh and established under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) in collaboration with the Israeli government.

Mizoram CM expressed his gratitude to DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh and state Horticulture Minister PC Lalthanliana for undertaking the initiative to build the Indo-Israeli centre of agriculture.

“We will reform our land with a strong conviction of honesty, diligence and faithfulness,” he said, adding that the centre of excellence for fruits is a milestone towards development in the state.

Carmon also expressed happiness over the collaboration and dedicated the centre to the people of Mizoram.

Stating that technological partnership with the Indian government is an invaluable venture, he said massive efforts would also be undertaken in the agriculture and water management sectors.

The newly-opened centre of excellence is the first such centre in the Northeast and has been set up on a plot of land donated by village councils of the two villages in Lunglei district.
