The Kokrajhar branch of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank distributed the insurance amounts to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana on Thursday evening in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

This was done at a programme held at the conference hall of Kokrajhar branch of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, the manager of the Kokrajhar branch of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Ajit Kumar Neog elaborated on the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The director of the regional office of Life Insurance Corporation of India situated at Guwahati, Nikhil Chandra Das was also present on the occasion.

Das urged all the beneficiaries to take the benefits of life insurance through their savings accounts. The LICI official also spoke at length about the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.

The regional manager of the regional office of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Pradip Chandra Paul, urged everyone to avail the benefits of life insurance through Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana with minimum investment.

He also urged the media, both print and electronic to give wider coverage to the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana so that more and more people can avail the benefits of the scheme.

The sanction letters of for releasing of Rs two lakh each to the family members of five beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana scheme from paglahat branch of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank were also distributed.

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is a government-backed Life insurance scheme in India. It was originally mentioned in the 2015 Budget speech by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in February 2015. It was formally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 May in Kolkata. As of May 2015, only 20 per cent of India’s population has any kind of insurance, this scheme aims to increase the number.

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is available to people between 18 and 50 years of age with bank accounts. It has an annual premium of Rs 330. The Service tax is exempted on Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The amount will be automatically debited from the account. In case of death due to any cause, the payment to the nominee will be Rs2 lakh.
