KTM is making a strategic return to the Indian big bike market, this time with a dedicated approach.

After a previous attempt fell flat, the company is setting up a premium dealership network specifically for its high-powered motorcycles.

Initially, these exclusive showrooms will be limited to select metro cities. KTM’s large-capacity bikes will be sold solely through these premium outlets in the initial phase. However, successful existing KTM dealerships may be considered for inclusion in the future.

While specific models haven’t been confirmed yet, the 890 Adventure and the 990 Duke are strong contenders.

For the ultra-enthusiasts, the monstrous 1390 Super Duke R might even be a possibility, though its completely imported status would push the price tag beyond Rs 20 lakh.

KTM’s prior attempt with the 790 Duke, sold through regular dealerships, wasn’t very successful. Since then, the 790 Duke has undergone a manufacturing shift and is no longer seen as the ideal entry point for the Indian market.

This strategic move by KTM also paves the way for the introduction of Husqvarna’s big bikes in India, potentially following a similar model to their existing small-bike distribution strategy. Husqvarna’s big bike lineup offers exciting options like the Svartpilen 801, which shares its platform with the 790 Duke, and the Norden 901, built upon the 890 Adventure platform.
