Union minister of state for food processing industries Rameswar Teli on Saturday visited the flood affected areas of Assam’s Dibrugarh district and took stock of the post-flood rehabilitation process.
Accompanied by district officials, the union minister, who represents the Dibrugarh parliamentary seat, first visited the flood-ravaged Oakland area under Dibrugah east revenue circle.
He inspected the damages caused by the flood waters of river Brahmaputra.
At least a dozen hamlets in the area, several tea gardens including the Oakland tea estate and hundred acres of farmland were ravaged in the recent floods.

The union minister interacted with the affected people and assured them of all possible help from the government.
The locals requested the union minister to repair the connecting road to Oakland which had suffered large-scale damages during the flood.

After giving a patient hearing, Teli directed the officials to look into the matter and expedite the rehabilitation and compensation process of the flood affected people.
The union minister thereafter took stock of the post-flood situation at Nagaghuli area, which was one of the worst flood-hit areas of Dibrugarh.
He visited the Kachari line and was briefed by the people about the flood damages.
Teli directed the officials to speed up the rehabilitation process and provide succour to the flood affected people.
Taking stock of the medical facilities being provided to the people, Teli asked the officials to provide drinking water and essential medicines to the people.
He also asked the officials to take steps to prevent outbreak of water-borne post-flood diseases.
Teli also visited Maijan and Kalakhowa areas and took stock of the post-flood scenario.
He inspected the Brahmaputra embankment and a ring bund at Kalakhowa which was breached by flood waters.
The minister directed water resources department officials to take immediate steps to repair the damaged dyke.
Teli said the work of repair and strengthening of all old embankments in the state will be taken up soon.
The recent flood had caused widespread devastation in the district with flood waters inundating as many as 102 villages and affecting over 64,000 people.
Several educational institutions and roads were also damaged in the flood.
Six relief camps were set up by Dibrugarh district administration at Baroghoria Janjati Anusuchita Jati ME school, 1 No. Garudhoria ME School, Lezai HS School, Phukanbam ME School, Patrogaon Jaya Mahila Samitee and Metekani LP School.
