Two persons were killed on Friday evening when a huge tree fell on their vehicle near the 7th Mile area at the outskirts of Dimapur, the commercial city of Nagaland.
Police officials told Northeast Now that the huge tree, which was loosely rooted on the ground, suddenly fell on a taxi which was travelling towards the capital city of Kohima.
“As the area was dark, the driver probably could not see that the huge tree had suddenly started to fall,” a police official said, ruling out any possibility of sabotage.
The uprooted tree crushed the roof of the moving vehicle. Both the passenger and the taxi driver died on the spot.
The two persons, who died in the accident, have been identified, and their bodies were handed over to the family members on Saturday morning.
One of them has been identified as Kedichol of Kidima village, an employee of Nagaland State Transport. And, the person was one Ranjit, a resident of Niuland area in Dimapur.
