Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, might soon have air connectivity with four international cities.

This became evident after the Centre has recently invited bid from airlines operators to run operations on routes connecting Guwahati with four international cities.

The connectivity will be done under the much hyped UDAN scheme.

This is the second time that such bid was invited by the central government.

The first such bid was invited in November last year following which Guwahati-Bangkok and Guwhaati-Dhaka routes were awarded.

The central government had launched the UDAN scheme to boost regional connectivity and making air travel affordable for common people by reducing airport charges and providing viability gap funding.

“Interested bidders are invited for submission of e-proposals for the International Air Connectivity (IAC) routes between Guwahati and four cities including Yangon, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu,” said a notice issued by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) on behalf of ministry of civil aviation.

This year, the central government has also started direct flights operations between Guwahati and Singapore.

The government has announced a maximum subsidy of Rs. 2,745 per passenger on Guwahati-Kathmandu and Rs. 7,445 per passenger on Guwahati-Kuala Lumpur routes. The government is ready to provide subsidy of up to Rs 4,831 per passenger on Guwahati-Yangon routes and Rs. 4545 per passenger on Guwahati-Hanoi route.
