A good number of Congress activists of Assam’s Darrang district including former district president of the party joined the BJP on Saturday.

The recruitment drive was conducted at a jam packed meeting held at the conference hall of Bishnu Mandir in Mangaldai.

Former president of Darrang District Congress Committee, Debabrata Dutta who was closely associated with the Congress since 1983 joined the BJP in presence of parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, legislator Guru Jyoti Das, BJP’s district president Nilima Devi and its district general secretary Sevali Goswami Kalita.

Retired district sports officer Nasiruddin Ahmed, former Congress ward commissioner of Mangaldai Municipality

Board Gautam Choudhury and a large number of leading citizens including some retired officials are also stated to have joined the BJP.

District coordinator of Darrang District Committee of BJP Pratap Bordoloi played a key role in this membership drive in the district, said party sources.
