Manipur police on Monday arrested a suspected drug smuggler with a huge cache of WY tablets worth Rs 1.5 crore from Telipati in Imphal area on Monday.

Police officials said 78,000 WY tablets in 390 packets (each packet containing 200 tablets), one mobile phone, one wallet containing Rs 1000 in cash, one Maruti car (WB20 AG/1894) were seized from the arrested suspected smuggler.

Police said the suspected smuggler has been identified as G Kalidas alias Das, 29, of Moreh in Tengnoupal district.

Imphal East district SP H Jogeschandra said the suspected smuggler was arrested by a team of police during random frisking and checking in and around Minuthong area around 11.40 am on Monday.

“During interrogation, the arrested smuggler stated that the suspected WY tablets were handed over to him by an unknown person from Myanmar and instructed to hand over the same to another individual in Guwahati,” SP Jogeschandra said.

He said the recovered WY tablets are valued at Rs 1.5 crore in international market. A case has been registered at Porompat police station in Imphal East district.
