How many music-loving people in the northeast know that June 21 is celebrated as the World Music Day?

During the last couple of years, people in the northeast have started to celebrate June 21 as the International Yoga Day.

As a result, more and more people started to forget that June 21 is celebrated across the globe as the World Music Day.

In 1981, French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang appointed Maurice Fleuret as the Director of Music and Dance. Fleuret was a composer, music journalist, radio producer and arts administrator.

Within a year Maurice Fleuret found that almost every young person in France played a musical instrument. But, most of them did not find enough audience.

Soon Fleuret decided to bring people out on the streets to play music and enjoy.

On June 21, 1982, the Fête de la Musique was held in Paris. The programme in Paris was a grand success, and there was no looking back.

The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that takes place on June 21 across 120 countries. It has become an international phenomenon.

On World Music Day, fun loving people play music in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. Free concerts are also organized, where musicians play for fun and not for payment.

More than 700 cities in 120 countries take active part in the World Music Day.

In India, a small section of people are celebrating the World Music Day. The Exchange4Media & Loudest.in are hosting annual music conference, Music Inci¸ with the theme, ‘Music at the intersections’. About 60 speakers are expected to attend the event.

Music channels Vh1 India and MTV Beats are also celebrating World Music Day on Facebook. Hashtag for the event is #LongLiveMusic.

The 24 hours event will start at Midnight on June 20 and will be the hosted on Facebook live in India. About 40 artists from different genres will perform in the show.
