The 3rd Indigenous Mango Festival will be held at Dhakuwakhona in Lakhimpur district of Assam on June 22 next.
This has been stated by Jitul Saikia, organizer of the event on Sunday.
The unique festival for the promotion and preservation of various breeds of indigenous varieties of mango will be held this year at the Normal School of Dhakuwakhona in the district.
The festival is being jointly organized by the sub-divisional authority of Dhakuwakhona, Rashtriya Grameen Jivika Mission (RGJM) of Dhakuwakhona and Ghilamora Rural Development Blocks in technical collaboration with Wild Silk Society NE and Regional Agriculture Research Station-AAU, North Lakhimpur.
A discussion on the preservation, promotion and commercialization of mangoes of indigenous breeds are being organized on that day to mark the festival.
Dr Narayan Chandra Talukdar, Director, IASST, Guwahati, Dr Rajendra Prasad Das and professor of horticulture AAU-Jorhat will attend the discussion as resource persons. Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan B will attend the festival as chief guest. Interactive sessions between local farmers and students will also be held in the festival. More than fifty variants of indigenous mangos will be exhibited and sold in that festival, said Jitul Saikia.
It may be recalled that the Wild Silk Society NE for the first time in the entire northeast organized indigenous mango festival in 2017 in North Lkahimpur followed by the second one in Machkhowa, Dhemaji in last year.
