Bhutan has decided to hike the salaries of teachers, doctors, nurses and medical staff making them the highest paid civil servants in the country.
As per a report in The Bhutanese, the cabinet had taken this decision on June 5 last.
With this big decision, the cabinet has ensured that it has also overturned the unofficial civil service hierarchy where administration officials enjoyed trainings, trips and other perks.
The number of teachers to be included in the salary hike is estimated to be around 8679 and for medical staff it is assumed to be 4000.
Bhutan health minister Lyonpo Dechen Wangmo said that education and healthcare are two social sectors which needed a lot of investment.
According to the report, there are higher stress levels and longer working hours of the persons involved in the medical and education sector.
However, the people belonging to these professions are not getting the desired benefits and perks.
The report also stated that due to the reasons of not getting desired perks in accordance with their hard work, many teachers of the country have left the teaching profession.
Apart from teachers, the people involved in the healthcare sector too are opting for other career options.
In order to recognize the efforts of the teaching and healthcare professionals, the Bhutan government has now decided to hike their salaries and attract many youths of the country in these two professions in the coming years.
