Hearing a petition on the boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, the Supreme Court on Monday asked social activist T.H.S. Bonney to send his representation to the Central government in connection with his plea on the issue.
T.H.S. Bonney, a social activist from Meghalaya, who is also contesting the Lok Sabha polls from the Shillong parliamentary constituency, sought a direction from the apex court to the Centre for constituting a time-bound commission to permanently resolve the boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam.
According to media reports, an apex court bench headed by Chief Justice and Assam’s son of the soil Ranjan Gogoi asked the petitioner to send representation to the Central government.

The Supreme Court bench granted him the liberty to approach the apex court if he was not satisfied with the Centre’s order on the issue.
In his plea, Bonney sought serious action from the Centre and the Assam and Meghalaya governments regarding a permanent demarcation of the boundary of the two neighbouring states – Meghalaya and Assam – so that the people residing in the border area would not face any hardship and atrocities due to the border problem.
It may be mentioned that to solve the boundary disputes, already a number of discussions and dialogues have been held in between the two northeastern states in various levels, but the issue is yet to be solved.
According to the petitioner, for failure on the part of the authorities concerned, the people and local residents of both the states are facing hardships and differences resulting in communal clashes and insecurities.
The plea sought a speedy and judicious resolution for the issue.
