As preparations have been going on in Mangaldai district along with other parts of the country to celebrate the Republic Day this year and security is being tightened in the district so that no untoward incident takes place before and on the R-Day, Mangaldai Police recovered a live cartridge of firearm on a street in the district on Wednesday.

The live cartridge was recovered lying abandoned in the Saloipara area on the busy Mangaldai-Bhutiachang PWD Road.

According to police, one Jitu Moni Barua of Chamuapara village of the district first saw the live cartridge while he was coming through the village. As soon as he saw the cartridge, Barua immediately brought it to the notice of the Mangaldai Police. Later a team of Mangaldai Police rushed to the place where Barua saw the cartridge and the police confirmed it to be a live cartridge of 9 mm bore pistol.

However, till filing of this report, it is still unknown to the police whether the cartridge is of a licensed firearm or of any firearm without any licence. As per sources, Mangaldai Police has not received any report of missing of any such cartridge from any arm licence holder in the district. Mangaldai Police has started investigation into the incident.
