A six-day National Integration Camp which was organized at the Assam Don Bosco University on the outskirts of Guwahati came to an end on Wednesday.

The camp was organized by the Regional Directorate of National Service Scheme (NSS), Guwahati, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Assam Don Bosco University at Tapesia campus of the University.
At least 200 NSS participants and 10 NSS programme offices from across 14 states participated in the event.
While congratulating the participants, Dr Tushar Rane, chief field officer, UNICEF, who graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest said that the UNICEF is closely working with NSS, various government departments and academia to address pressing social concerns like child marriage in the region.
“The students have a role to play in preventing child marriages. These are the girls who die during child birth. We have to ensure that no child marriage happen in our communities. The skills that were given during the integration camp are progressive. We need to use these skills for development of self and society. You are the ones who are going to make the difference,” he said.
On the other hand, Fr (Dr) Stephen Mavely, vice chancellor, Assam Don Bosco University said, “The NSS National Integration Camp was organized to bring the country together at the service level.”
Urging the participants, Dipak Kumar, director, Guwahati Regional Directorate of NSS said, “The exposure which you got through various activities, adventure events and community visit to 16 villages is tremendous. You are the ambassador to your respective states. It is now your duty to propagate what you have learned in this camp. The activities must continue. What you have learned you must share with others.”
As part of the integration camp, several technical sessions were conducted such as life-skills, self- defence, ‘shramdaan’, literary competitions, outdoor games, cultural events, community engagement, adventure sports and trekking activities.
Special prizes were given in different competitions such as drawing, elocution, essay writing, among other events.
The community engagement programme on hygiene and cleanliness were carried out in 10 villages in Sonapur area such as Goriaghuli, Upper Tapesia, Ural Basti, Nazirakhat, Maranga Bari, Tamulikuchi, Sarutari Medhikuchi, Jhargoan and Matigog.
