Nagaland Governor P B Acharya administered the oath of office to the first Lokayukta of the State Justice Uma Nath Singh at a solemn function in Raj Bhavan of Kohima.

Former Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court was sworn in at a programme held at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Friday evening.
Justice Singh will hold office for five years or till he attains the age of 70.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, opposition leader T R Zeliang, a host of ministers, MLAs and government officers.
Acharya was appointed Justice Singh as the Lokayukta of the state on February 1 last.

Earlier, expressing happiness at the appointment of the Lokayukta in Nagaland, anti-graft group – Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation – appealed to the Nagaland government to give ‘enough teeth’ and necessary support to the Lokayukta to enable it to carry out its duties and functions in ‘letter and spirit’.
The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization, the most vocal consumers’ body in the State, also urged the State Government to provide the Lokayukta with proper facilities so as to enable it to work as the most effective and powerful statutory body.
