The Khango Konyak-led NSCN (K) on Tuesday joined the working committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) becoming a partner in the ongoing political negotiations with the Government of India.

While being a part of the committee, the NSCN (K) will also maintain its own identity.

The decision to this effect was taken after taking into consideration the earnest appeal and prayer of the Naga people at a meeting of NNPGs, including Khango-led NSCN (K).

NSCN (K) president Khango Konyak and general secretary Isak Sumi were present at the meeting.

This was stated in a “deed of agreement” signed by the working committee convenor N. Kitovi Zhimomi, co-convenors Zhopra Vero, Y. Wangting Naga, Hozheto Chophy, Kiumukam Yimchunger and Toshi Walling and NSCN/GPRN (K) president Khango Konyak, sources said on Wednesday.

The leaders of NNPGs unanimously reaffirmed that all “defectors”, both civil and military workers within the NNPGs, are to abide by the 2017 resolutions, dated May 13, August 8, September 19 and October 6.

The meeting gave 10 days’ time to all the ‘defectors’ to return to their parent organisations, failing which the working committee of NNPGs will jointly decide on the course of action deemed necessary against them.

It was also resolved that it is mandatory for all the signatories to enforce anti-defection agreement as “defection among Naga political groups has never been a thorn in a flesh causing irreparable damage to the Naga cause”.

The deed of agreement was signed in presence of Nagaland Tribes Council mediation committee convenor Yesonu Veyie and Nagaland Gaonbura Federation president Shahlem Konyak and general secretary Shikuto Zalipu.
