Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), a leading youths’ organisation of Assam has announced its agitation programme against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, demanding introduction ILP and dual citizenship.

The general secretary of the AJYCP, Palash Changmai on Monday announced that the organization would organize awareness march on January 26 in rural areas of the state against the Citizenship Bill as well as other two key demands of the organization.

The organisation to hold protest demonstration throughout the state on January 30 to press for the demands and demanding withdrawal of the contentious Bill.

The youths’ organization to resort to rail blockade in various parts of the state on February 7.

“The AJYCP has been agitating for introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and dual citizenship in Assam for the last 40 years. The prevailing situation in the state has made our demands more relevant,” the AJYCP leader said.

The organization call upon the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) to play a proactive role in the next budget session of Assam Assembly to organize opposition political parties mount pressure on the ruling party to get a resolution passed against the Citizenship Bill.

The AJYCP leader fired a broadside at Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for putting forward argument for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

“His greed for power has made Sarbananda Sonowal to bow down before the government in New Delhi and it has been well reflected in his stand vis-à-vis Citizenship Bill,” Changmai said.

The AJYCP leader also has warned the ruling party in the state “not to play politics in the name of religion and language” for political gain ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
