Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday termed state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the ‘new Hindu Jinnah of Assam’ who is trying to divide the society of Assam.

“Following the ideal of Jinnah, Himanta Biswa Sarma is trying to divide the Hindus and Muslims of Assam. This is unfortunate.  The BJP has been trying to divide the Hindus and Muslims through the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016,” said Gogoi while interacting with the media in Guwahati on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned here that Sarma while speaking at a public rally at Silchar in Assam stated that Rahul Gandhi wants the Jinnah to remain in Assam. Later addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma termed the Congress as followers of Jinnah and said that the debate over the NRC is a fight between the Jinnah’s legacy and India’s legacy.

Ä new Jinnah has born in Assam. But he is not a Muslim Jinnah, but a Hindu Jinnah. It is only Himanta Biswa Sarma who follows the communal ideology of Jinnah,” Gogoi stated.
