It may be noted that the statue of Swami Vivekananda was unveiled as a part of the silver jubilee celebrations of St Vivekananda English Academy which was first set up 25 years back by its founder principal and present rector A K Som, winner of the prestigious President’s Award for Teachers.

Speaking on occasion, the Governor Prof Mukhi while hailing the role of the teachers, present and past as well as its students in enabling the school to travel the journey for 25 years and transform it into an institution of repute, said that the school has empowered its students by providing them opportunities and challenges, values and commitments for manifesting a knowledge-driven society.

He also said that the main purpose of education is to produce good and productive citizens. He urged upon the teaching fraternity of the school to bear the responsibility to make the school a place where its students can be made good citizens.

He also said that in a civilized society each generation is expected to make the society better for the next generation.

He, therefore, asked the school authority to take it as their duty to infuse intellectual temperament among its students, so that they can help to make an intellectually imbued society for the present and future generation.

Unless a bent of mind is created among them for intellectual excellence, the very purpose of education cannot manifest its avowed goal.  I, therefore, on this occasion of silver jubilee celebrations, urge upon St Vivekananda English Academy, to intensify its role to the creation of a better society which reflects good human values and help tge students in recharging their mind and body for creating a brighter, more positive state of mind for a developed state and a developed nation.”

On the occasion, the Governor also called upon the students to emulate the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and relentlessly pursue their career until they reach their goal. He also asked them to work and contribute to the creation of a society of Swami Vivekananda’s dream.
