Along with other state students’ bodies of the north-eastern states, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has also extended its support to the North East Students’ Organization’s (NESO) call for a 11-hour ‘Northeast bandh’ on Tuesday.

The AAPSU has vowed to observe the bandh across Arunachal Pradesh protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 would be passed in Parliament soon.

Interacting with media at Arunachal Press Club in Itanagar on Sunday, NESO coordinator Pritam Waii Sonam came down heavily on the BJP governments, both at the Centre and the state.
While lambasting BJP’s move to dump the Hindu Bangladeshis on the Northeast, the AAPSU termed the saffron party as the biggest demographic threat to the region.
The recommendation of the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 was tabled in Parliament on Monday.
While accusing the Centre of drafting the bill on the basis of religion; the NESO coordinator, however, clarified that the umbrella body of the students’ organizations of the north-eastern states is not opposing any particular community, be it Hindu, Christian, Sikh or Muslim.
He further expressed apprehension that the bill, if passed, will lead to a chaotic situation leading to unrest and violence across the region.
On the other hand, AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai asserted that the AAPSU will enforce the 11-hour bandh across the State through its federating units.
