MAHUD (Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development) Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Sunday, inaugurated a rural market shed at Kongpal Kongkham Leikai in Imphal East district.

Speaking at the inaugural function, he appealed to the local residents of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai in Imphal East district to maintain cleanliness of the area and to preserve the environment besides conserving the local pond located near the newly inaugurated rural market shed.

The rural market shed was constructed under the central scheme Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) by the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department Government of Manipur.

Local MLA L Susindro Meitei (Khurai Constituency), Zilla Parishad M Tomba Singh of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Mission Director N Premananda Singh of MIDH, Imphal East District officer Y Bhojendro Singh of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department officials attended function.

Hoping that the rural market shed will help the women of the area to generate income, Minister Shyamkumar announced that another market shed will be constructed to accommodate the women vendors who have been shifted from in and around the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences at Porompat area in Imphal East.

He further assured the people of the area that the pond located near the rural market shed at Kongpal Kongkham Leikai can be protected and cleaned under the scheme of the Environment Directorate. Minister also assures a  toilet  for the market at the earliest.

Informing that the State Government is ready to extend all possible help to the people of the State, he appealed to the women vendors of the newly inaugurated rural market shed of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai in Imphal East district to submit their bank accounts through the local MLA so that they can avail soft loans from the Government.

He also appealed to the people of the State, especially to the women to stop using tobacco products to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
