The Rongjuli police in Lower Assam’s Goalpara district on Thursday produced one Asuruddin Mollah who was apprehended by police on Wednesday on the allegation of raping a minor girl from Kamrup Rural district, before the district Special Court in Goalpara.  The court sent the accused for seven days police remand.

Asuruddin Mollah was found in an objectionable position with a minor tribal girl by the villagers of Jibranga village under Rongjuli police station while they were taking sheltering in an agricultural water pump house on Wednesday morning and handed over to police.

During the course of investigation, police found that that the tribal girl was from a village of Boko police station of Kamrup Rural district. She acquainted with the accused over telephone through a miss call and grown friendship. The accused had allegedly hidden his religion and original identity also.

“According to the statement of the girl, she was invited fraudulently to Dhupdhara of Goalpara district on Monday morning where from the accused picked up her and kept in a house of one Moynal Ali of Jibranga village. In the evening, on the pretext of dropping her at her residence, Asuruddin took her from Moynal’s house to the water pump house and raped her in the night”, informed a police officer.

“We have registered a case under different Sections of Prevention of Children from the Sexual Offences (POCSO) and Indian Penal Code (IPC) and investigating all possible aspects related in the case”, informed further the police officer.

Meanwhile, the family of the tribal girl has not come forward to take the custody of the victim. Though her sister prayed for ‘Zimma’, the Special Court declined her plea as the case is very sensitive and sent her to the ‘State Home’ for women.
