Dwijing Festival
The 3rd edition of the festival being inaugurated by Assam PHE Minister Rihon Daimary.

The much-anticipated Dwijing Festival began on Thursday at the Aie River Park, Hagrama Bridge in Chirang district.

The 3rd edition of the festival was inaugurated by Assam Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) Rihon Daimary.

Speaking on the occasion, Rihon Daimaray said, “Today, on its 3rd year of inception, the festival has set a benchmark for itself. We have people coming from all parts of the country – both national and international. In the coming years, we aim to make this festival and Aie River a tourist hub for the nation.”

Gautam Talukdar, Deputy Commissioner of Chirang district, who is also the president of the Dwijing Festival 2018-19 organising committee, hoisted the flag of the event.

The festival will continue till January 7, 2019.

The inaugural day programme was also attended by Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah.

The day began with a marathon race from Chapaguri to AIE River.

The marathon competition was flagged off by international boxer and Arujana Awardee L. Sarita Devi.

The marathon race was followed by the inauguration of food stalls by Assam Minister for Tourism and WPT & BC, Chandan Brahma.

The day also witnessed the opening of Bodo Traditional House, book stalls, traditional stage, adventure sports, Dwijing night camp, demonstration and opening of rifle shooting, jeep and elephant safari among others.

The organizers in a press communiqué stated that the second half of the day witnessed cultural programmes by various tribes, a fireworks show, performances from Bangladesh, performance by singer Anaya Brahma and popular singer Kailash Kher.
