A day before the first phase of Panchayat polls in Assam , polling personnel with polling materials today left for 724 polling stations in Lakhimpur district where 46 polling stations are marked very sensitive, 185 sensitive and 493 comparatively safe.
Presiding Officers along with first, second, third and fourth polling officers gathered at the B-Team play ground of North Lakhimpur Government HS School this morning before collecting their polling materials from issue and receipt counters. The security personnel attached to every polling staff joined them at the same venue.
Elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration for the polling personnel with food, drinking water and medical care services. This time 4,004 numbers of polling personnel has been appointed to conduct the polls in the district on December 5, in which 577008 electorates including 290124 males and 286884 females are expected to cast their votes.
There are 2226 candidates in the fray of which 1800 are for the Gaon Panchayat Members (GPMs), 250 for Gaon Panchayat Presidents (GPPs), 193 for Anchalik Panchayat Members (APMs) and 50 for Zilla Parichad Members (ZPCs). There are 14 constituencies for the ZPCs, 60 for APMs, 60 for GPPs and 600 GPMs in Lakhimpur district.
For the first time in the district, Block Level Officers (BLO) has been engaged for the identification of voters at the polling stations on the polling day. Today 550 vehicles of various types left for various polling stations with polling personnel and materials from Tyagkshetra, A-Team playground of North Lakhimpur Government HS School and PNGB Girls High School in North Lakhimpur.
Earlier, the district president of BJP, Phanidhar Baruah was heckled by public at Korson in Azad Gaon Panchayat last night for campaigning at 8 pm , long after the expiry of the polling campaign time at 3 pm.
