As part of its movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and 28 other ethnic student organizations of Assam met Kokrajhar East MLA and Assam minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Sunday and sought her support in scrapping the bill.
The delegation led by assistant general secretary of AASU (central committee) Nabajyoti Roy met Minister Pramila Rani Brahma at her resident in Kokrajhar. The team also submitted a demand letter to the legislator.
The move is part of the organizations’ crusade against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill meeting MLAs and Ministers individually seeking their support in scrapping the bill.
The AASU team expressed satisfaction with the assurance of the Minister.
Later talking to reporters, Minister Pramila Rani Brahma said “It’s a problem of all the indigenous people of Assam. The public have expressed serious concern over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016? and it’s a serious issue related to the people of Assam.
The Minister said she has high hopes on the Chief Minister that he won’t do anything that will be against the people of the State.
“Today he may be silent on the issue but I believe he will stand for and by the people of the State. We all have to think on it. We all have to stand united and act that is best for the entire State and its people,” she said.
