The IAS Association on Tuesday condemned the assault of a police station and the attack on a Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent Police in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh allegedly by about 100 Army personnel.

In a post in the association’s official Twitter handle, it stated: “We strongly condemn the rogue act of ransacking a Police Station, threatening, abusing & assaulting a SHO, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police on duty. Rule of Law is paramount and Justice must be ensured esspecially when perpetrators are those whom the Nation looks upto.”

The secretary of the Indian Civil and Administrative Service (Central) Association (IC&ASA), Rakesh Srivastava has also written a letter to Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra, seeking action against the military personnel involved in physically assaulting West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swarup and Superintendent of Police Raja Bhantia.

Northeast Now has earlier reported that during the second day of the Buddha Mahotsava celebration on Saturday, the 2nd Arunachal Scouts (AS) personnel stationed in West Kameng headquarters Bomdila went on rampage and vandalized the police station and the PWD office in Bomdila.

Meanwhile, the West Kameng district unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Police has begun an inquiry into the vandalism that took place at the police station and the PWD office on Saturday.

The probe team is being led by an officer of the rank of additional superintendent of police (ASP).

Earlier, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) strongly condemned the attack and demanded that the State Government and the Union Home Affairs Ministry immediately ‘institute an inquiry committee and award stringent punishment to perpetrators of such an unbecoming act’.

Women’s organizations of West Kameng district also staged a protest at Buddha Park in Bomdila on Tuesday, condemning the ‘unruly rogue behaviour’ of the 2nd Arunachal Scouts (AS) personnel with Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop, Superintendent of Police Raja Bhantia and other policewomen on November 2 and 3 last.
