The Goalpara district administration is well prepared for Panchayat elections scheduled to be held on December 9 next in Goalpara district. The District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varnali Deka has announced the reservation of seats in 81 Gaon Panchayats, 16 Zila Parishads and 8 Anchalik Panchayats.

In the Zila Parishad seats, Dhupdhara, Kuchdhowa, Bodahpur, Dwarka and Takimari have been declared as open. On the other hand, Krishnai, Suryagiri, Ambari, Jaleswar, Chunari and Bhasanipara are reserved for female candidates.

The Rongjuli seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, Agia and Rajmita reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, and Matia and Dodan for ST female candidates. The date for filing nominations has been fixed on November 19 next, withdrawal of nominations on November 22 next and counting of votes will be done on December 12 next.

Office of political parties like Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is chock-a-block with people in Goalpara town after the Assam State Election Commission announced the Panchayat poll schedule. The residences of all the four MLAs, two Congress, BJP and AIUDF one each, were full of people throughout the night – all aspiring candidates and their supporters.
