Five roadside shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at the 2 Mile area near Pasighat on Thursday afternoon. All the shops though rented belonged to one John Bini.

Fire tenders from Pasighat and neighbouring State Assam were pressed into service to douse the fire. Though no human casualty was reported, however, properties worth lakhs were reportedly damaged by the inferno. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Local MLA Kaling Moyong who expressed shock over the unfortunate incident has sought a detailed report of it and urged the district administration to extend all required help to the victims. At the same time, the MLA has appealed to the people to remain alert and be cautious as fire accident occurs frequently in Pasighat.

He further called upon the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to create awareness on fire mishaps amongst the common masses. Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Tatdo Borang, along with the Circle Officer, Khoda Lasa, and DDMO G Tsumohad visited the spot and took stock of the situation. Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak informed that police is investigating the matter to unearth the cause of the fire.
