Nagaland is one of the three states apart from Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir that does not have a Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), reveals a three- month survey of a non-profit body Transparency International India (TII).

The survey also found that 46 posts out of the total 156 posts of Information Commissioners haven’t been filled in 17 states of India.

Apart from the vacant posts of Information Commissioners, the posts of CIC have also been found vacant in seventeen states.

The survey also revealed that only 12 out of 29 states of India have filled all posts of CIC and there isn’t any vacant post left.

The survey also found that 18,47,314 second appeals and complaints were processed, besides 11,356 cases of penalty dealt with during the period 2005-2016.

Out of 29 states of India, only 10 states have been found to have fully updated their annual reports for the year 2016-17 and only 11 states have been found to provide online facilities for filing of complaints or appeals.

The survey found that only Chattisgarh has updated all its annual reports during the period 2005-2017 on its website, reports TNT.

The report also revealed that in September, the Centre for Law and Democracy (Canada) and Access Info Europe (Spain) published the ranking for 123 countries on the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) and India has been found to be in the sixth position.
