The Table Tennis Arunachal (TTA) is all set to organise the first edition of Kalikho Pul Memorial State Level Table Tennis Championship at the MLA Cottage Badminton Stadium here from October 12 to 14 next.

Supported by the Sports Authority of Arunachal, said tournament is being organized in the memory of former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister late Kalikho Pul.

Addressing media persons at the Press Club here on Wednesday, TTA general secretary Phassang Dingla informed that the Association has taken the consent of late Pul’s family to organise the tournament in his name and one of his family members has also agreed to sponsor the championship.

“A total of 90 participants from 13 districts, including players of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) would be taking part in the championship,” said Dingla while adding that the competition, which would be the first major table tennis tournament of State, is being organised with an aim to promote the sports, particularly among the youths of Arunachal Pradesh.

Echoing Dingla, TTA senior vice president Penya Bagra informed that International Blue Badge umpire Ksh Mahendra Singh and national umpires, Y Amos Singh and N Rupadharti Devi along with a technical official from Manipur would be conducting the entire championship.

“The three-day long competition would be held in the sub-junior to senior categories. The winners of the championship would get an opportunity to represent the State in the national level,” said Bagra.
