Tripura faced a humiliating defeat by eight wickets in the hands of Tamil Nadu of the Vijay Hazare one-day match being played at IIT Chemplast ground in Chennai on Wednesday.

Tripura elected to bat first after winning the toss.

The Tripura team scored 196 losing all their wickets in with three overs and two balls to spare.

Tripura wicket-keeper batsman Smith Patel scored the highest 60 runs for his side that featured 11 boundaries.

The other Tripura batsmen to reach double figures were Ninad Kadam who scored 31 runs, Bravish Shetty scored 20 runs, Harmeet Singh(13), Rana Datta(18) and Abhijit Sarkar scored 24 runs.

Athisayaraj Davidson scalped three Tripura wickets while Rahil Shah, M S Washington Sundar and Varun shared two wickets each.

M Mohammed had to be contended with a solitary wicket.

In reply, the home team reached the target of 197 in just 31.2 overs losing two of their wickets.

Opener Abhinav Mukund displayed excellent batting skills and remained unbeaten at 131 with the help of 13 fours and six sixes.

The other opener N Jagadeesan scored 40 and gave a perfect opening foundation with Abhinav of 135 runs in just 20.1 overs.

B Indrajith remained unbeaten with 18.

Harmeet Singh took the two wickets for 46 in ten overs.

Tripura had lost five of their matches with only two wins against Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan.

They now have eight points in their kitty.

Tripura will play their last two matches against Jharkhand and Assam on October 5 and 9 respectively.
