Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday laid the foundation stone for construction of the road at Lakhinagar 1 in Dibrugarh town where the State CM’s residence is located.

The 1.025 km stretch of the road project worth Rs 128.64 lakh will be constructed under States Own Priority Development Project (SODP). The construction will cover No 1 Lakhinagar road, by-lane No 3 and Kacharibari road.

It may be noted that despite the CM’s own residence being located at the starting point of No 1 Lakhinagar Road, the condition of the dirt-track non-metalic road has been in worst condition as the rainy season continues. The people face trouble in passing through the road because of its worst condition.

Few months ago, some of the locals of the area criticised Chief Minister Sonowal for his failure to construct the road where his own residence is located.

Gobind Changmai, a local resident of the area, who highlighted the issue on the social media platforms, has welcomed the decision of the State Government to construct the road.

State PWD and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli, Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika and Lahowal MLA Rituparna Baruah were also present at the foundation laying ceremony.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the NH-37 (Assam Trunk Road) reconstruction project here at Chawalkhowa in the presence of State Finance and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The programme was also attended by Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli and MLA Prasanta Phukan. The road has been in a dilapidated condition for more than a decade.

Under the project, a length of 19.54-km of the National Highway passing through Dibrugarh will be reconstruct from Chawalkhowa to Barbaruah at a cost of Rs 32.29 crore.
