The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, guarding the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura, in the last three days, have been able to seize narcotics in huge amount with the help of intelligence cells and other sister agencies.

It may be mentioned that Tripura has witnessed increase in smuggling and transportation of ganja and narcotic substances like Yaba, heroin and brown sugar.

Stating that the change of pattern in recent times may increase addition of such narcotics among youths, the spokesperson of BSF, Tripura Frontier, in press communique stated: “The enormous profit margin in the smuggling of Yaba and heroin, easy method of concealment and transportation, attracting the misguided elements towards these profitable trades.”

BSF is guarding the border of the State as sentinels of the nation assisted by intelligence cells and other sister agencies to make all out efforts to curb this menace.

As part of their efforts, on September 8, 2018 at about 9:15 pm, the ACP party of BOP Belardeppa, 145 Bn BSF fired one stun grenade to disperse the miscreants, approaching towards the Indo-Bangla border fence (IBBF) without paying any heed. Due to alertness on the part of the BSF personnel, the miscreants fled away the Indian village side taking advantage of darkness and dense vegetation.

During search, the BSF team seized 250 Yaba tablets worth Rs 1,25,000 with BD currency Taka 13,485 from the spot. On the same day, the patrolling party of BOP Nirbhoypur seized 20 kg of ganja worth Rs 1,00,000.

On September 9, 2018, at about 12:30 am, on specific information, a special ambush party of BOP Srimantapur, 145 Bn BSF, observed two miscreants approaching towards the international border from Indian village Bhogjur side through water-filled marshy land in un-fenced area. On being challenged, they fled away towards same Indian village side leaving their consignment behind and the party seized 1,875 Yaba tablets worth Rs 9,37,500 and 5 kg of ganja worth Rs 25,000, the BSF spokesperson stated.

On September 9, 2018, the BSF intelligence branch of Sector Panisagar received some specific information about move of consignment of narcotics, being transported from Assam to Agartala via Silchar-Agartala passenger train. Accordingly, the information was shared with local BSF unit and a special operation was planned with troops of 55 Bn BSF, deployed at Panisagar, under the leadership of Gurdeep Singh, DC, 55 Bn BSF with 1 SO and 6 ORs of 55 Bnand Field ‘G’ team, Sector Panisagar.

The party boarded the train at the Panisagarandin Railway Station and made a thorough search in the train compartment. At about 13:25 pm, the special operation party recovered 1 packet of heroin weighing 125 gm worth Rs 60,00,000, which was kept in blue colour plastic medium size bag kept in packet of Nutri Choice Biscuits in plastic bag.

On inquiry, no travelling passenger, in the coach of the train claimed the recovered narcotics.

The seized narcotics were handed over to the GRP, Dharmanagar Railway Station and an FIR was lodged.

On Monday at about 11:10 am, on specific information from Field ‘G’ team sector, Gokulnagar, a special foot patrolling party of BOP Boxanagar, 74 Bn BSF seized 605 Yaba tablets worth Rs 3,02,500 from the fenced area of the BOP on being smuggled to Bangladesh.

In the last three days, BSF troops have been able to seize narcotic items worth Rs 74,90,000.
