When Tripura government has tightened its noose against the drug peddlers to contain smuggling in the state, drug peddlers have come up with innovative idea to peddle contraband items. In one such incident, the North District Police chased and detained a petrol tanker used to smuggle ganja at National Highway 44 under Bagpassa outpost on Thursday late night.

Acting on a tip off, the police team including Bagpasa outpost in charge Dipla Ridrapal chased the petrol tanker bearing number AS-01 U 7688 and detained the tanker which was being used for smuggling a total of 2,100 Kg dry ganjas worth Rs 1.5 crore. The petrol tanker is registered in Assam.

Talking to media the police personnel stated that they took action based on the secret information. The police team chased the tanker when it was passing through Churraebari from Agartala to move outside the state. Although the tanker managed to escape the barricades at Panisagar and even at Bagpassa later police succeeded in detaining the tanker.

A total of 2,100 kg dry ganjas in 210 packets each weighing 10 kg were seized by police.
