Rescuers evacuate people from a flooded area to a safer place in Aluva in Kerala.

The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Thursday slammed the Narendra Modi-led BJP government for not extending required assistance to flood-ravaged Kerala.

“The government is not accepting foreign donation in assurance to deal the calamity with domestic efforts but so far PM Modi has announced only Rs 500 crore as Central assistance which is not sufficient to rebuild flood-hit areas of Kerala,” APCC spokesperson Mina Toko said.

The APCC asked the Modi government to spell out what kind of assistance it provided Kerala apart from announcing the “meagre amount”.

“The death toll is increasing, people have lost their properties, millions are displaced and flood victims are yet to cope with the severe calamity. The total estimated loss is Rs 19,512 crore as reported whereas the PM is busy with BJP-ruled states only.

“Modi should stand with the people of Kerala in their times of need. Deliberate denial and delay in extending Central assistance has exposed his political priorities over flood relief work,” Toko said.

The APCC demanded that the PM should extend support to Kerala as per requirement and also urge that the Pema Khandu-led State BJP government to contribute for Kerala on humanitarian ground.
