With the initiative of the Tripura Journalists Association, a cross country run was held at Damcherra under Dharmanagar Sub division of Tripura on Saturday.

The run was organized in commemoration of the 72nd Independence Day.

It’s for the third time, the Tripura Journalists Association organised this rally.

More than 100 students participated in the rally where the two km run for female was held first at 6 am in the morning followed by five km run for male.

Local tribals as well as non-tribals enthusiastically participated in the run with huge zeal despite the fact that they belong to one of the most backward area.

The participants were further motivated by prizes to all.

However, first three winners were awarded with television sets, sewing machines and table fans along with certificates.

Tripura Journalists Association secretary Debasish Majumder, state committee member Panna Ghosh, Dharmanagar sub divbision secretary Palash Sen, Kanchanpur members, BDO Damcherra Pijush Deb, officer in charge of Damcherra police station Debasish Debbarma and others remained present in the programme.

The dignitaries in their speeches highlighted the importance of healthy life and sports activity in everyone’s life.

Discussion of prevention of HIV/ AIDS and elimination of drugs were also discussed in the programme.

Tripura Journalists Association secretary Debasish Majumder further stated that every year Tripura Journalists Association organizes cross country run for motivating the students to come forward and participate in such sports related activity. He further urged the state government to look into such backward areas and motivate the children to look forward to a healthy life.
