Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who held a meeting with a delegation of All Assam Chutia Students’ Union at Circuit House in Guwahati on Saturday, assured the delegation that the Government would consider fulfillment of all the demands of All Assam Chuita Students’ Union with open mind.

Talking to the delegation in response to a memorandum submitted to him, Sonowal said that the government has adopted a positive attitude towards meeting the demands of the community.

Referring to a demand of All Assam Chutia Students’ Union regarding naming the Bogibeel Bridge after the name of Sati Sadhini, Sonowal said that since the bridge belongs to Railway Ministry of Government of India, he would convey State Government’s request to Railway Ministry to name Bogibeel Bridge after the name of Birangana Sati Sadhini.

He also said that State Government will take steps for the preservation of memorabilia belonging to Chutia community scattered across 56 locations in the State.

Regarding the demand of declaring Sati Sadhini’s birthday as an official holiday, Sonowal said that the Cabinet sub-committee is empowered to declare a particular day as government holiday as he would refer the matter to Cabinet sub-committee.

With regard to preservation of the capital of Chutia King in Arunachal Pradesh, Sonowal said that the State Government would dash off a letter to Arunachal Pradesh government.

He also directed Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) to identify a piece of land for construction of a hostel for the students belonging to Chutia community.

Stating that the State Government has taken positive steps for the preservation of archeological sites, he cited the examples of Madhupur Satra in Cooch Behar in West Bengal and Lakshminath Bezbaroa’s residence at Odisha, adding that the Government would do everything possible for the preservation of the capital of Chutia King.

Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohiya, president of All Assam Chutia Sammelan Amiya Bora and office bearers of All Assam Chutia Students’ Union among others were present at the meeting.
