Petrol crisis has hit the state of Tripura on Thursday as the petrol pumps are running dry following indefinite stir by the drivers and handymen under the banner of Tripura Oil Tanker Mazdoor Sangha.

The drivers and handymen under the banner of Tripura Oil Tanker Mazdoor Sangha staged ‘break in work’ for an indefinite period since morning 8 am at Dharmanagar. Their five-point charter of demands includes salary hike (as per Central scale), provisions for provident fund, medical allowances, weekly holiday and pension.

A long queue is witnessed outside the petrol pumps since morning.

Though the SDM rushed to IOCL depot to talk to the protesters, they refused to withdraw their stir until and unless they get a written assurance from the authority.

The drivers alleged that they are hardly getting Rs 2500 to 3000 as salary and a handyman gets only Rs 500 which is not at all sufficient to run families.

Earlier also they staged protest with the same demands on April 31 this year following which they held a meeting with the authorities concerned on June 26 but no assurance was given to them regarding their demands.  Failing to get any assurance they decided to stage break in work from Thursday.
