The Assam Rifles with the help of police apprehended the ‘self-styled’ commander of newly-formed outfit Barak State Liberation Force, 34-year-old Md Salim Ahmed alias Soloman Sheikh, of Barkatpur village under Assam’s Karimganj district from Notun Bosti area at Dimapur recently.

One .22mm pistol along with magazines and six rounds of .22mm live ammunition were recovered from his possession, an Assam Rifles release said on Wednesday.

During interrogation, Salim admitted to his involvement in extortion, kidnapping and purchase of arms and ammunition for raising the group in Silchar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of Assam.

Meanwhile, the 36 Assam Rifles and Athibung Police apprehended one NSCN (Unification) ‘sergeant major’ – Daniel (35) of Mobulong village under Peren district – along with one .22mm country-made pistol at Athibung on July 25. The Assam Rifles release said Daniel was actively involved in tax collection at Athibung.

The Dimapur Battalion of Assam Rifles recently nabbed one NSCN (K) cadre, 32-year-old Asheto Sema of Suruhoto village under Zunheboto district from Dilai Gate, Dimapur. One 9 mm factory-made pistol along with magazines, live ammunition and cash of Rs 2,630 were recovered from his possession. He was presently residing at New colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur.
