The Bajali sub-divisional administration in the Barpeta district on Thursday took out a drive against use of domestic LPG cylinders in restaurants and hotels.
A sub-divisional administration team, led by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Vijay Bhaskar Reddy P along with officials of the Food and Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, carried out raids in a number of restaurants in Bajali area and seized twelve domestic cylinders misused in three restaurants and hotels.
While eight domestic LPG cylinders were seized from  Sarupeta Asha Restaurant near the Station Road, three cylinders were seized from Bhawanipur Marami Restaurant and one cylinder from Pathsala Nishan Hotel & Restaurant near the civil hospital.
As per norms, use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes is legally not allowed. Shopkeepers and owners of other commercial establishments have been restricted from using domestic LPG cylinders.
“A large number of traders and businessmen are using domestic LPG cylinders in their shops. Anyone, who wants to use an LPG cylinder for commercial use, he or she must use LPG cylinders customized for that purpose,” said an official. The official also said they carried out the raid on the basis of complaints received over use of domestic cylinder in commercial purpose in a number of hotels and restautres in the sub-divison.
Earlier also, on July 12, 2018, the Bajali sub-divisional administration along with Food and Civil Supplies Department officials seized eight domestic cylinder misused in three restaurants in the sub-division.  Two domestic cylinders were found at Atithya Restaurant, two domestic cylinder at Sanjyukta Restaurant and four domestic cylinders were found being misused at Habi Restaurant.
