Lalima Devi, a 62-year old woman, whose body was found in a toilet of the Dibrugarh-Delhi 15909 Avadh Assam Express at Mariani Railway Station in Jorhat district on Wednesday, was on her way to Bihar from Dibrugarh to get her pension released.
“Lalima was going to Gopalganj in Bihar to get her her pension released which was stopped since many years. Lalima is a resident of Gopalganj, Salimpatty. Since many years her family has been living in Dibrugarh. Lalima was traveling alone in the train to Gopalganj,” said sources.
Lalima was living with her two sons Jitendra Kumar Singh and Bijendra Kumar Singh at Niz Kodomoni at a rented house in Dibrugarh town. She was a widow.
“Our mother is going to Gopalganj, which is our native village to get her old age  pension released which has remained stopped since one year. At 9.30 am, she boarded the Dibrugarh – Delhi 15909 Avadh Assam Express from the Banipur Railway Station at Dibrugarh and at 3 pm, we came to know that the body of our mother was recovered inside the toilet of the train at Mariani Railway Station. After hearing the news, both the sons rushed to Mariani. We don’t know, how did it happen; she was happy when she was boarding the train,” said Pooja Singh, wife of Jitendra Kumar Singh.
The post-mortem was  conducted at Jorhat. The body was not handed over to the sons till the filing of this report.
“We are shocked after hearing the incident. I had a cordial relation with my mother. She was good with me and told that she would bring gifts for me from Gopalganj. I fail to understand why was she murdered as she was very affectionate and had no enemy,” said Pooja.
She added her husband, Jitendra, has been working with an NGO which provided them rented house to stay and for quite some times they have been living there.
“Four of us had been living happily at our house. We have respect to each other and our mother travelled alone to Gopalganj since many years. Their sons could not go with her because they have been engaged at work. Her demise is an irreparable loss for us,” she added.
It may be mentioned that on Tuesday, the body of Radha Kumari, an Assam Agricultural University (AAU) student, was found murdered in the toilet of the Dibrugarh-Rangiya Express at Simaluguri in Sivasagar district.
Meanwhile, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Thursday  arrested one Bikas Das at Tinsukia for being involved in both the murder cases.
