Devendra Nath Bera, a 45-year-old youth from West Bengal, who has been on an all India bicycle tour to create awareness on Swachh Bharat Mission, arrived in Dhubri on Saturday late evening.
Bera, who hails from Sarta Satsahi village of Sabang in West Medinipur district, started his bicycle journey with an aim to cover about 22000 km across the country with his unique bicycle, to spread awareness on the importance of cleanliness and sanitation.
Bera’s bicycle no chain, no bell, no seat, no brake and no gear.
Speaking to Northeast Now on Sunday, Bera, a medicine shop owner, said, he started his bicycle journey on June 17 last from his native village located in West Medinipur. Bera said, “I have planned to tour a total of 22,000 km covering 33 States across the country to spread awareness on Swachh Bharat Mission to keep the nation clean.”
After Dhubri, Dera’s next destination is Guwahati and then Shillong.
When asked about his next destinations, Bera said, “From here I will go to Guwahati, then Shillong, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.”
Bera also said he is confident of getting his name included in the Book of World Records.
He further informed that every day, he pedals about 70 km to 80 km and spend all his time on the bicycle.
Bera moves ahead with his bicycle pulling the front wheel with his two hands leaning over the handle.
“It is the duty of each and every citizen of the country to support Swachh Bharat Mission campaign to make India free from garbage,” said Dera while appealing to the people of each place where he visits during the journey.
His nephew Ashok Kumar has been assisting Dera riding another bicycle during his journey.
