Agartala: The Tripura Police have arrested three alleged drug traffickers and seized Yaba addictive tablets valued at Rs 2.28 crore in the international market from Dhalai district’s Durgachowmuhani village.
The operation is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to create a “Nasha Mukta Tripura” (Drug-Free Tripura).
Dhalai Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Rai while confirming the development said the operation took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
“At around 2.15 am, a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) bearing registration number TR01-BV-0629, traveling from Unakoti district’s Fatikroy area, was intercepted at the Durgachowmuhani naka checkpoint,” SP Rai said.
On being thoroughly searched, the police, in the presence of Kamalpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), an executive magistrate and independent witnesses, recovered 456 small packets containing a total of 91,200 Yaba tablets.

The consignment of the addictive tablets is valued at Rs 2.28 crore in the grey market.
The three alleged drug traffickers – Litan Miah (32), Saminul Islam (25) and Jahir Hossain (40) – are all residents of Sonamura in Sepahijala district, which shares international borders with Bangladesh.
The SP further said that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and investigations are ongoing to unearth the place of origin and its destination.
The police are also investigating the links to bust the inter-state and international drug trafficking network.
Yaba is a combination of methamphetamine – a powerful and addictive stimulant – and caffeine.
Yaba, which means crazy medicine in Thai, is produced in Southeast and East Asia.
The drug is popular among the Asian communities in the United States and is increasingly available at raves and techno parties
