Principal of Udalguri Girls H S School, Mrigendranath Kalita passed away due to prolonged illness at his residence in Udalguri of Assam on Friday.

The news of his death has cast a pall of gloom among the people of Udalguri.

He was 55 and was suffering from critical illness and slipped at a washroom following which he breathed his last at 4.15 am on Friday.

Besides being a dedicated teacher, he was a versatile poet who was associated wih Udalguri Sahitya Sabha as its magazine secretary, Udalguri District Poets’ Association as its former president besides closely related with various socio-religious institutions.

Born on October 24, 1962 he had a meritorious career.

He did his intermediate in science and later obtained a Bachelors and Masters degree in arts.

He joined the Udalguri Girls H S school as a assistant teacher on May 1, 1985.

He was elevated to the post of Principal on June 13, 2017.

Kalita, a multi-faceted personality was a melodious poetry reciter who performed on many occasions in Udalguri.

The representatives of different organizations, students gathered to pay their last respect to Kalita.

A mourning procession was also taken out throughout Udalguri town.

The Udalguri Sahitya Sabha, All Assam Students’ Union, Udalguri Regional unit offered their hearfelt condolence to the bereaved family members.

The body was also taken to Udalguri H S school where his colleagues and students offered their last tribute to his mortal remains.

He was cremated at the local crematorium.

He leaves behind his wife, one son and a daughter.

His untimely demise was widely mourned.
