Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay who is in India on a three-day visit called on the President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday.

During his meeting with President Kovind, the two leaders discussed about the strong ties that the two neighbouring countries share and also sorted out plans for the celebration of 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his official twitter handle, the Bhutanese Prime Minister wrote:

‘Called on @rashtrapatibhvn, H E Shri Ram Nath Kovind, yesterday. We discussed the strong friendship between India and Bhutan, and events being organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay also held talks, during which defence, security and strategic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries were discussed.

The two leaders met at the Hyderabad House in the national capital.

Tobgay tweeted:

‘Meeting Prime Minister @narendramodi ji is always a celebration of Bhutan-India friendship. Enjoyed discussing a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues. Lyonpo Namgay Dorji, senior government officials and I am visiting Delhi at the invitation of PM Modi.’

The two leaders also discussed on the present situation in Doklam tri-junction, the hot spot that had witnessed a 73-day-long standoff between Indian and Chinese armies last year.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had also called on Tobgay and discussed ways to deepen the bilateral cooperation.

Tshering also met Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday morning.

Tshering Tobgay, arrived on a three-day visit to India on Thursday.

Notably, Tobgay had visited Guwahati in February early this year to participate in the Advantage Assam, the Global Investors’ Summit.

Tobgay had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit during that time.
