Dr. Debabrata Sikdar at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), has been bestowed with the prestigious ‘Emerging Leader 2023’ award.

Guwahati: Dr. Debabrata Sikdar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), has been bestowed with the prestigious ‘Emerging Leader 2023’ award by the journal Condensed Matter.

This recognition underscores his exceptional contributions to the field of condensed matter physics, particularly in the realms of nanophotonics and metamaterials.  

The award, conferred by the journal’s editorial board, honors early-career researchers demonstrating outstanding potential and achievements in their respective domains.

Dr. Sikdar’s groundbreaking work in developing innovative nanophotonic and metamaterial devices has positioned him as a leading figure in the field.

His research, focused on miniaturizing and enhancing the efficiency of photonic systems, has yielded significant breakthroughs.

Notable accomplishments include the design of nanoparticle meta-grids for improved LED light extraction and the creation of electro-tunable smart windows and radiative cooling technologies.

Additionally, his exploration of the epsilon-near-zero effect and metamaterials for manipulating electric and magnetic fields has expanded the possibilities of photonic applications.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Dr. Sikdar emphasized the collaborative efforts of his research group at IITG.

He highlighted the award’s potential to elevate the institute’s global standing and accelerate the translation of their research into practical solutions.

“This honor will undoubtedly fuel our drive to create groundbreaking photonic devices and contribute to advancements in high-speed optical communication, 6G technology, and the Internet of Things,” Dr. Sikdar added.

The team’s recent work on electro-tunable metasurfaces, which enables dynamic control over light polarization, showcases their commitment to pushing the boundaries of photonics and developing solutions with real-world impact.
